Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Fixed Assets, this position will be responsible for assuming a lead role in a number of different fixed asset initiatives including: investigating and posting asset retirements; analyzing depreciation variances and supporting the compilation of the annual depreciation forecast, completing capital asset review and asset conversions; supporting the completion of various financial statement notes and analytics required for the year end audit; and providing training on asset componentization. This position requires strong technical knowledge of accounting policies and systems as well as analytical and IT related skills. This position will be required to develop active partnerships with staff across the Enterprise so as to be in a position to provide advice and direction on the application of the Asset Accounting Handbook and make decisions on the eligibility to capitalize costs.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigate, calculate, and post asset retirements for various asset components.
  • Participate in the completion of asset conversions and evaluate and process asset corrections.
  • Analyze, monitor, and report on depreciation and amortization expense including determining actual to budget and year over year variances. 
  • Participate in the development of the depreciation and amortization forecast including analyzing trends and incorporating the impacts of future capital plans.
  • Assist staff in interpreting and applying the Asset Accounting Handbook and the policy for Property, Plant & Equipment and Intangible Assets to capital and operating related questions/issues.
  • Participate in the year end audit including note preparation, analytics, and responding to audit requests as required.
  • Participate in the financial asset requirements of a General Rate Application including preparation of specialized schedules and responding to information requests. 
  • Design and implement process improvements to ensure adequate financial controls and participate on process improvement teams to improve asset data across the Enterprise.
  • Audit capital projects to ensure eligibility of capitalization and proper asset componentization and provide asset training when issues are identified.
  • Be fully proficient in the key systems and processes utilized for financial asset creation and asset retirements.   
  • Represent the Fixed Asset Section in ad hoc meetings and provide consultation on capitalization of costs, SAP capital structure, and asset requirements including level of asset detail.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and participates on process improvement teams as required.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of the Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) program plus two years of related experience in fixed assets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of capital and operating accounting processes including a thorough understanding of the Asset Accounting.
  • Ability to effectively communicate detailed accounting information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a variety of team settings. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the relevant SAP modules and other IT systems pertaining to fixed assets, capital projects, and operating processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products including Analysis for Office (AFO).

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $42.28-$58.34 Hourly, $81,019.90-$111,796.10 Annually.
