Introduction
The Department of Public Service Delivery is seeking a Power Engineer to join their operations at the Selkirk Mental Health Centrein Selkirk, MB. The incumbent performs the duties required to assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers, electrical power generating equipment, and auxiliary equipment associated with a 24/7 power plant. 
Duties:
  • Performs testing, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance duties on boilers, air compressors, air conditioners and all auxiliary equipment and fire protection system components including fire pumps, sprinkler systems, and portable fire protection equipment.
  • Responds to client heating/cooling calls; steam system malfunction; performs repairs as required.
  • Assist the shift engineer in the operation of the power plant.
  • Investigates/responds to fire alarms in all buildings throughout the facility, coordinates with facility staff and the fire department for appropriate emergency response.
  • Operates the facility fire alarm system to perform user-level tasks such as understanding and responding appropriately to trouble, monitor and alarm conditions, enable/disable specific devices, clean/replace smoke detectors.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of the Power Plant operation and of auxiliary equipment.
  • Mechanical and electrical trouble shooting abilities.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a member of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, manage deadlines and follow up.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a 4th class power engineering certification registered in the Province of Manitoba.
  • May be exposed to the following environments: extreme temperatures, high noise levels, exposure to chemicals, and confined or restricted entry.
  • Some physical demands may include: walking, standing, crouching, climbing, heavy lifting, and prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Must be able to work shift work including weekends and stat holidays.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vunerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
