Director, Student Services (Bannatyne Campus) - Level G (EMAPS)
Existing Budget-Funded Continuing
Full-Time 35.00 hours/week: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Salary Range: $35.57 - $53.35 per hour ($64,731.76 - $97,097.64 per annum)

Responsibilities:
- Manages the budget, salary, and non-salary expenses for the unit.
- Directs, mentors, and develops staff of SSBC, including the allocation of work assignments, on-the-job training, performance management, hiring, and discipline.
- Determines staff work schedules.
- Coordinates and approves all absences.
- Designs positions descriptions and position profiles for permanent and temporary positions.
- Manages the SSBC office and is responsible for daily operations.
- Ensures that all staff members are fully trained and prepared as needed to execute their work.
- Participates in the Student Affairs and directs the SSBC strategic planning process.
- Develops and makes recommendations with respect to policies, protocols, systems, and programs within the unit.
- Ensures that all staff members are apprised of all changes occurring at the FG campus that may affect the information given to students at Bannatyne.
- Provides support to staff when challenging situations arise requiring escalation.
- Prepare briefing notes to raise awareness of or make recommendations about matters related to student mental health and wellness.
- Manage staffing challenges, interpersonal disputes, and difference in workstyles for both direct reports and allied student support staff deployed to Bannatyne.
- Manage case coordination amongst various student affairs staff and services.
- Ensure services are delivered in line with the University of Manitoba's strategic priorities.
- Track evaluation outcomes, and report on progress and final outcomes.
- Review activities of staff complement from participating Student Affairs units to identify gaps, trends, and emerging issues.
- Maintain active liaison with home units of staff members.
- Chair committees and bring together senior leadership across RFHS to inform program development and overall service delivery.
- Serve on numerous special committees.
- On-site resource for employees and staff from Student Affairs partner units.
- Provide clinical and administrative supervision to UMFA Counsellors and EMAPS confidential intake and triage case workers.
- Develop a strategic plan for direct service to assist in resource allocation planning.
- Provide consultative support for UMFA Student Affairs Promotions processes.
- Act as a liaison with various constituencies at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Attend networking events, deliver workshops, and build partnerships to enhance services offered by SSBC.
- Build and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders in the RFHS and U of M community.
- Identify areas in which new partnerships can be developed within the university or with external organizations to enhance student support.
- Develop informational materials and deliver presentations
- Collaborate with staff and partner units in assigning workshops to RFHS students, staff/units, faculty, and administrators.
- Participate in relevant campus events to provide information about resources and address misconceptions about wait-times, etc.
- Work with the Marketing Communications Office.
- Serve as a liaison and resource person for campus, media, or public enquiries regarding SSBC matters.
- Developing and implementing unit level Reconciliation action plan Provide a range of direct services to students and residents, including assessment, case management, counselling/intervention, consultation, and crisis management for a small, yet highly complex caseload.
- Serve as an on-site resource for employees and staff from Student Affairs partner units in terms of student-related concerns.
- Assist SSBC employees and staff from Student Affairs partner units in case management activities, including supervision, prioritizing cases, and follow-up activities.
- Provide consultation to RFHS staff and faculty regarding student-related concerns.
- Develop a strategic plan for direct service to assist in resource allocation planning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Graduate degree in a relevant field is required. (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Counselling) - Certification eligibility by appropriate professional or regulatory body is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least five (5) years of previous relevant experience providing direct service, including supervised experience is required. - Experience working in a collaborative, team-based environment is required.
- Experience in public speaking, advocacy, report writing, and event planning are required.
- Experience in developing partnerships to pursue new initiatives required.
- Appropriate experience coordinating, leading, or managing a team is required.
- Experience coaching and evaluating performance is required.
- Experience managing and overseeing a budget required.
- Experience in postsecondary service delivery preferred.
- Experience working in a health care setting preferred.
- Knowledge of post-secondary student academic, clinical, and developmental needs and best practices in meeting those needs preferred. - Knowledge of range of resources available to students preferred.
- Knowledge of unique aspects of the health sciences 'culture' and its effects on students preferred.
- Knowledge of the diverse community on campus and within Winnipeg and Manitoba preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable standards for professional ethics and privacy legislation is preferred.
- Knowledge of referral sources on campus and in the community is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
