We are seeking an Engagement Specialist to join our Transmission & Distribution Environment and Engagement Department. Under the general direction of the Senior Environment Specialist (T&D Environment and Engagement), you will develop and implement engagement and communication processes with Indigenous communities and the public and will provide expert support to the development of various regulatory submissions for major projects, including preparing and reviewing environmental assessment reports. The Engagement Specialist will participate and facilitate Indigenous and public engagement processes and develop plain language documents related to projects and processes.
Responsibilities:
- Participate and facilitate public and Indigenous engagement activities.
- Prepare, review, and update public and Indigenous engagement plans as well as draft plain language communication materials and technical reports for regulators.
- Prepare portions of environmental assessment reports for submission to regulatory agencies, including undertaking valued component selection, valued component effects assessments, and determining relevant mitigation measures to reduce impacts.
- Act as a landowner liaison for public engagement.
- Provide advice and assist in activities related to engagement events, environmental assessments, and the regulatory approvals for various transmission projects.
- Develops collaborative working relationships to identify and incorporate best practices in areas of engagement.
- Participate in internal and external multi-discipline project teams.
- Conduct research related to best practices in engagement and environmental assessment to help build deeper, collaboration, consensus, and find new ways of working together with communities.
- Writes reports, position papers, and correspondence at a high degree of accuracy for a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Assists with developing, tracking, and maintaining engagement and communication information in digital databases.
Qualifications:
- A four-year degree in Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Resource Management from a recognized university with five years of directly related experience.
OR - A two-year diploma in Natural Resource Management from a recognized college or university with seven years of directly related experience.
- Experience in authoring sections of an environmental assessment related to biophysical, socioeconomic, or engagement topics.
- Training from the International Association of Public Participation's (IAP2).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management, Indigenous communities, public, and external organizations.
- A self-starter, innovative, diplomatic, practical, tolerant, and possessing mature judgment.
- Available to travel and work in a variety of environments - office, project sites.
- Amenable to work assignments requiring absences from home base for brief periods of time.
- Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $42.29-$58.35 Hourly, $81,036.54-$111,819.24 Annually.
