Under the general direction of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead, this position will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with various Indigenous communities for the purpose of promoting employment opportunities at Manitoba Hydro. Will oversee, coordinate activities, and build on-going relationships with partner communities included in the Joint Keeyask Development Agreement (JKDA). Will also promote employment at Manitoba Hydro through participation in activities and programming throughout the Province.
Responsibilities:
- Act as lead department representative on work related to employment commitments under the JKDA. Attend meetings and assist in coordinating annual activity planning with community representatives.
- Responsible for leading the Indigenous Sharing Circle in Winnipeg, which includes scheduling of meetings and oversight of annual programming.
- Build strategic relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and stakeholders throughout the province to build awareness of employment opportunities at Manitoba Hydro.
- Participate as the Indigenous Employment Relations Advisor on various Manitoba Hydro committees.
- Develop and deliver presentations, information sessions, and webinars regarding diversity, equity & inclusion topics, including Indigenous topics, to internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend various career awareness events throughout the province, particularly in northern locations.
- Create written content on diversity, equity and inclusion issues for websites, reports, and articles.
- Provide consultation, awareness and education on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues (with particular emphasis on Indigenous issues) throughout the enterprise.
Qualifications:
- Minimum four-year Bachelor of Commerce Degree (HR Major), or other relevant discipline from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of three years of directly related experience.
OR - Minimum two-year Diploma in Human Resources or other relevant discipline from an institute of recognized standing plus a minimum of five years directly related experience.
- Preference for Indigenous candidates who possess an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, traditions and issues.
- Monthly northern travel will be a requirement of the position.
- Proven ability to work with Indigenous communities.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and understanding of challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence and maintain effective working relationships with staff and management throughout the enterprise, as well as with external agencies.
- Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in promoting diversity and inclusion programming.
- Familiar with relevant legislation including the Employment Equity Act and Human Rights Code.
- Proven skills in managing projects and delivering on tight timelines.
- Strong written communication skills with experience writing reports and recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $38.22-$52.90 Hourly, $73,229.00-$101,367.24 Annually.
