Elections Manitoba is seeking a highly organized, creative individual to join our team as a Communications Officer. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Information, the Communications Officer works to connect voters and partners with the services provided by Elections Manitoba.

QUALIFICATIONS
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be, and remain, politically non-partisan in both perception and fact.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Essential skills/expertise:
  • Post-secondary education in communications or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
  • Exceptional written, presentation, oral communication, and interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to present complex material in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Extensive experience developing and editing a variety of communication materials.
  • Effective political acumen and the ability to manage confidential, controversial, and politically sensitive material and situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Practical experience with social media tools and tactics.
  • Experience building effective working relationships with a variety of groups.
  • Demonstrated experience managing numerous projects and file simultaneously. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; Experience with Adobe CC.

Desired skills/expertise:
  • Media relations experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop considered an asset
  • The ability to speak and write in French

Duties:
Communications Officer will:
  • Develop, manage, and deliver a variety of communications content and materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Be responsible for digital content creation and delivery of informational election materials, public information materials and reports and internal EM materials.
  • Promote and support ongoing education and outreach programing and relationship building and to engage and connect with voters with an aim to reducing barriers to voting.
  • Support media relations efforts and activities.
  • During a general election, establish and oversee operations of a six to eight person call centre to respond to public calls and inquiries.
