Simulation Technician

Reporting to the Manager, Simulation Education, the Simulation Technician is responsible for assisting Instructors with courses in the instructional activities of simulations. The assistance provided ensures seamless delivery of pedagogical material and ensures that faculty and students have the support needed for successful outcomes. The position requires a strong knowledge and understanding of simulation technology, procedures, and instrumentation used in RRC Polytech’s health programs. The incumbent is required to assess, recommend, and order equipment and supplies consistent with program specifications and assist with design and adaptations for simulation sessions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in a health or technical field of study (ie. Nursing assistant, health unit clerk, emergency medical responder, etc.). A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Several years of experience in a healthcare setting or related field of study, and thus, knowledge of processes, and techniques within simulation or healthcare environment
- Experience in ordering and purchasing equipment
- Understanding of the learning needs associated with a variety of learning styles and abilities
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS applications including Office, Learning Management System and simulation software
- Effective and written communication skills. Ability to present information clearly and professionally to faculty and students
- Ability to act authentically as the mannequin to provide a realistic depiction of the simulation scenario
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to interact empathetically with a variety of people when preparing for and delivering simulation scenarios
- Ability to follow instructions, marking guides, policies and procedures provided by the Instructor
- Ability to meet specified deadlines and deliverables associated with the course timelines. Ability to think critically and problem solve efficiently
- Foundational knowledge, aptitude or experience in setting up, operating or troubleshooting specialized equipment used in simulation (manikins, A/V, IT, lab or other simulation equipment etc)
- Knowledge and awareness of environment (trends, new equipment, etc) including Health and Safety requirements as applicable to the subject matter content
- Knowledge of assessment techniques, human physiology and medical terminology
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a Post Secondary Institution
- Attainment of appropriate professional certification/license within the related field, if applicable
- Certification in First Aid (Level 1 or 2), as applicable to the training environment
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work overtime
- Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
