Position Summary:
The Customary Care Supervisor is responsible for managing the team of child welfare workers within the Portage la Prairie Sub Office. The incumbent is responsible for the transition of service delivery from court related services to contracting services between the agency, care giver, and family. In addition to supporting the children, youth, and families in maintaining family connections with an end goal of reunification wherever possible.
Some Duties include:
- Identifies, facilitates, implements, monitors, and evaluates Customary Care practices within the Portage la Prairie sub office.
- Assists in the development and training for Customary Care within the Portage la Prairie Sub Office.
- Completes evaluations on case workers at each stage of evaluation as per the Agency’s Human Resource policy.
- Provides the Executive Director with information pertinent to evolving issues including local community issues, cross-governmental work and other initiatives that impact Customary Care implementation.
- Consults and collaborates with the agencies, officials of other government departments, non-government organizations and community interest groups.
- Ensures all reviews and assessments are completed appropriately and submitted on time.
- Review and recommend approval for family support plans, voluntary placement agreements, homemakers, and daycare arrangements within two weeks of receiving documentation.
- Attends case conference meetings, and court proceedings with case worker(s) and other agency staff as required and/or requested.
- Ensure all services are provided in compliance with Provincial standards, regulations and the Child and Family Services Act of Manitoba and reflect the values, traditions and customs of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation.
- All Supervisors must perform on-call duties consisting of a two-month rotation (subject to change).
- Will manage day to day operations of the Portage la Prairie sub office.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary training in the social sciences or a relevant area of specialization is essential.
- Several years’ proven work experience in the child and family services system in Manitoba, including experience in Customary Care development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Child and family services legislation, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in the use of a desktop computer and software applications such as Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Must have demonstrated understanding of First Nations traditional culture and traditional philosophy.
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle as incumbent will travel.
- Must pass Vulnerable Sector Check, Prior Contact Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- The ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language is an asset.
