Work schedule is a five-day workweek that includes Saturdays and Sundays for visitor centre hours and public programming, with regular days off mid-week. Some evening shifts are required for programming, especially during the summer season.

Introduction
Manitoba Parks is seeking a highly engaged and motivated individual to fill the Senior Park Interpreter position for Whiteshell Provincial Park. The Manitoba Parks Interpretation Unit delivers educational activities, events and guided programs to connect visitors to the sites, stories and landscapes in provincial parks.  Park Interpreters provide these positive visitor experiences to inspire stewardship of park resources.  We believe that through learning and discovering comes understanding, appreciation and protection of our parks, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.  The Senior Park Interpreter plays a leadership role in developing and delivering quality interpretive experiences for park visitors.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, statutory holidays and shift work.
  • Must be willing and able to travel with occasional overnight stays.
  • Must be willing and physically able to perform the duties of the position including working in various types of outdoor conditions in all seasons, hiking trails in challenging terrain, and lifting and moving items.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field such as natural resources management, natural sciences, Indigenous studies, education, history, or recreation/tourism.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience developing and delivering interpretive programs at a natural, cultural or historical site, such as a park or museum.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with experience delivering presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write various documents and reports at a professional level.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team setting, and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to adapt to changing workloads and demands, while working independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of the natural, cultural and historical resources in Manitoba's provincial parks.
  • Knowledge and a thorough understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures and perspectives.
Desired:
  • Experience developing interpretive media such as signs, exhibits, publications and digital content.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations for visitors to Manitoba's provincial parks.
  • Supervisory experience, including highly developed coaching and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in both official languages (English and French).

Duties:
The Senior Park Interpreter will develop and deliver programs year-round based on park themes, including guided walks, illustrated talks, roving trailheads and campgrounds, school group programs, and oversees operation of multiple interpretive centres in the Whiteshell. 
This leadership position trains and supervises a team of seasonal interpreters and volunteers in the park, and provides coaching and mentorship to park interpreters in other provincial parks. The incumbent will contribute to park operations and resource management, and work to build relationships with local Indigenous groups and community organizations to develop programming partnerships.
