Introduction
Winnipeg Child and Family Services is currently seeking candidates for the Family Support Worker 2 position, offering a 48 or 64-hour bi-weekly guarantee, to provide services within Winnipeg. Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes for travel within the Province of Manitoba.
  • Must provide a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including, days, evenings and weekends.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position which may include reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 kilograms or 55 pounds.
  • Must have a personal cell phone for work purposes.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Grade twelve plus 1 year related course work plus one year relevant experience in a related position OR equivalent combination of education and 3 years relevant experience in a related position.
  • Experience working with children and families in a supportive manner.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare written documents in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and establish working relationships with various stakeholders, such as; children, youth, parents, social workers, supervisors and collaterals.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with families, children and youth facing multiple barriers such as; financial, addiction, abuse, etc., or from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of child development and behaviour including the effects of abuse and neglect.
  • Excellent judgement and problem solving skills including the ability to handle sensitive and non routine issues in stressful environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Desired:
  • Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or Adobe
  • Knowledge of community resources and programming.
  • Experience teaching parenting skills, life skills and household management skills.
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in French.
Duties:
Under the direction of the assigned Coordinator, the Family Support Worker 2 provides a range of services that contribute to improving family functioning, parental capacity and child safety and well being.  The Family Support Worker 2 participates in the development and implementation of a range of goal-oriented interventions to children and their families or to children in Care.  Primary duties include; teaching parenting skills, age-appropriate life skills, budgeting, nutrition and household management, advocating for and assisting clients with access to community resources, supervising family visits for children in care, and escorting children and/or their parents to scheduled appointments.  A full position description is available upon request.
