The opportunity:
The Manitoba Network Environment for Indigenous Research (MB NEIHR) project supports Indigenous-led community-based health research, the building of academic-community research partnerships, and the mentorship of Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students and early career researchers.
The MB NEIHR Coordinator will be responsible for fostering engagement and partnership between academic researchers and the Indigenous community.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the MB NEIHR Coordinator will support the development and coordinator of the MB-NEIHR Project’s development of the Indigenous Organizations Research Support Unit and the Prairie Indigenous Knowledge Exchange Network (PIKE-Net). The NEIHR project has two main focuses: one of supporting Indigenous students through mentorship opportunities, training sessions, creation of mentors for the students and financial opportunities and two of supporting Indigenous organizations and partners in the development of their own research units and centers. This role will be supporting them in the development of protocols, budgets, policies and strategy. They will also be responsible for communicating the MB-NEIHR project as well as support the PIKE-Net students.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
Preference will be given to Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) candidates. Please self-declare in cover letter.
- Master's degree in a related study area with two years = directly related experience.
or
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with five years = directly related experience.
or Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with six years = directly related experience.
- 2 - years' experience in a research-related environment.
- Must have experience with completing ethics, managing a research budget and developing policies and procedures.
- Experience working with First Nations, Métis, Inuit or other Indigenous organizations within a research environment is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong communication skills in English (both verbal and written) are required.
- Ability in working with Indigenous student in post-secondary environments is required.
- Excellent organization skills are required.
- Must have good interpersonal skills is required.
- Demonstrated competence in advanced features of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word) required,
- Must be able to identify and maintain confidential information is required.
- Must be able to work autonomously and work on own initiative, setting priorities and making sound independent judgments is required.
- Must be able to work in a team environment is required.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and manage changing priorities is required.
- Must have strong leadership skills exercise good judgement, tact and diplomacy is required.
- Effective time management, decision making, problem solving and organizational skills are required.
- Experience or strong interest in Indigenous health research is required.
- Ability to interact with students, senior level managers and faculty members with the same respect and tact is required.
- Must have be able to demonstrate professional manner at all times is required.
- Ability to meet external deadlines and manage competing deadlines/priorities is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Willing to travel
