We are now accepting applications for a temporary Boat Patroller position under the Waterways Management Program for a term extending from July to October 2025.

Under the direction of the Waterways Management Program team will implement core-objectives of the Waterways Management Program in the Easterville area.

Make waterways safe for navigation by finding and removing floating debris hazards from boat patrolled waters.

Collect and maintain information to monitor effectiveness and efficiency of patrols in maintaining safe waters for navigation and for increased program effectiveness.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections of boat patrol routes assigned and ensure that all problem areas are thoroughly covered.
  • Responsible for the care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Collect and organize technical data using digital cameras, GPS, laptop computer and related software programs. 
  • Work cooperatively with other Hydro personnel and resource users.
  • Must prepare detailed reports and make recommendations on issues observed and reported to operations area.
  • Layout work areas, inspect and report on works performed by various communities.
  • Interpret and enter data on maps and prints of Resource Area.
  • Establish and maintain close liaison with the community in work related matters and issues.
  • Keep abreast of community perceptions and attitudes to deal effectively with the community, especially issues of a high sensitivity.
  • Establish and maintain detailed records and diaries of observations, meetings, and discussions.
  • Originate and recommend new ideas and means for improving efficiency.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Grade 10 and one year experience related to the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrated Indigenous Traditional Knowledge, including knowledge of Northern Cree culture and language.
  • Ability and initiative in carrying out the completion of assignments and to make sound decisions with minimum supervision.
  • Prepared to travel with little notice.
  • Ability to schedule and organize duties as required.
  • Reliable self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Physically capable of carrying out tasks at hand and duties as assigned.
  • Possess a strong, outgoing personality to communicate and deal effectively with people of all levels within and external to the Corporation.
  • Ability to prepare detailed and accurate reports of fieldwork and concerns of resource users.
  • Familiar with and adhere to Manitoba Hydro's Corporate safety policies and the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and other approved associated practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to enter daily reports and technical data on a laptop computer and/or tablet.
  • Possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of resource area and resource users.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment such as chainsaws, outboard motor and boats, snowmobiles, ATV's, etc.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours and willing to work overtime as required.
  • Keep up to date on new technology and government regulations, policies, procedures, and approvals.

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $22.59-$32.39 Hourly.
