DUTIES
Reporting to the Director of the Building Efficiency Technology Access Centre (BETAC), the Applied Research Chair in Sustainable Construction will lead industry-driven research on sustainable housing challenges, building efficiency, construction productivity and innovation and related topics. The Chair will work directly with clients and partners, negotiate agreements, and ensure high-quality deliverables. Key responsibilities include identifying grant opportunities, cultivating industry partnerships, and writing proposals to secure funding. Beyond grant revenue, the Chair must generate fee-for-service income by providing consultancy and testing services. Building strong connections with industry organizations, government agencies, and community partners is essential to translate research into practical tools and guidelines that benefit BETAC and its collaborators.

This role extends beyond student and instructor engagement. While collaborating and engaging RRC Polytech instructors on applied research programs and overseeing co-op students, the Chair will also drive projects that secure industry funding. With the support of BETAC Director, the Chair will develop and deliver training courses and workshops to help industry meet evolving building codes, standards, and efficiency requirements. The Chair will work within BETAC’s mandate and support the achievement of performance metrics and fulfillment of commitments to funders and clients. Success will be measured by meeting targets related to grant funding, industry-sponsored projects, and training enrollments, with regular reporting on revenue generation, partnership development, and real-world impact.
