Reporting to the Dean of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship and Technology, UCN is seeking qualified Instructor for the Culinary Arts program in The Pas. The instructor will be committed to excellence in teaching and promoting an industry-endorsed, culturally relevant curriculum in a classroom environment as well as in UCN's kitchen working closely with UCN kitchen staff. Instructions in the kitchen include preparing meals that are then sold to students, staff, and community members. In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible for classroom management, including ensuring that the functional areas comply with the Workplace Safety and Health Act and all applicable UCN policies and procedures, student supervision and advising, maintenance of student records and grades, curriculum review/development, and other administrative tasks. The successful incumbent will also assist with assigned activities including University College promotion, student recruitment, and various administrative functions.

·        Documented Red Seal certification as Chef (Cook trade)

·        Significant industry experience in the trade after completion of Red Seal designation

·        Experience in a leadership role in culinary industry environment

·        Excellent communication skills including proficiency in MS Office tools

·        Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and safe workplace

·        Excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to teamwork

·        Strong organizational and time management skills

·        Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills

·        Familiarity with issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in northern communities

·        Current industry standard safety certificates

·        Previous instructional experience

·        Ability to speak an Indigenous language

·        Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada

·        College Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
