We are seeking a Professional Engineer to join our Station Design Department. Under the direction of the Structure, Equipment & Grounding Section Head or delegate, lead electrical designs and guide technical staff - including Technical Assistants, Engineering Aids, and consultants - in developing AC transmission & distribution substation and HVDC Converter Station switchyards ranging from 4 to 500 kV.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical direction to technical assistants, engineering aids and consultants in the design and preparation of all electrical drawings, bills of material, estimates, memos, specifications, and requisitions associated with the design of AC and DC stations with voltage levels up to 500 kV.
  • Provide electrical designs relating to the layout of apparatus, structure and bus configuration, clearances, insulation level, auxiliary systems, and operation of new and existing stations.
  • Prepare specifications and analyze tenders for purchase of materials.
  • Provide design drawing reviews and approval prior to issue, including reviewing drawings from other departments with respect to their relation to station design and provide electrical approval.
  • Review and/or approve on behalf of the Corporation manufacturers' and consultants' drawings associated with projects, to ensure compliance with Corporate specifications and electrical standards.
  • Meet with manufacturers' representatives, clients, consultants, contractors and Corporate personnel from other divisions as required to satisfy station design requirements.
  • Monitor the progress and review the status of work of external consultants and project design teams involved in turnkey designs using accepted project management procedures and practices.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing minimum of six years of directly related experience in structures, equipment and grounding design, construction, and/or commissioning of high voltage AC and DC switchyards.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all types of high voltage electrical apparatus, including applications involving power cables, medium voltage switchgear, and HVDC converter stations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Electrical Codes, applicable standards and construction practices related to high voltage design.
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of stations, voltage classes and their design.
  • Ability to provide mature leadership in planning, organizing and controlling the activities of a group of highly skilled technical assistants and engineering aids.
  • Ability to motivate others and a demonstrated high degree of initiative.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Enthusiastic and demonstrated initiative in handling involved and adverse technical and administrative problems.
  • Working knowledge in construction or maintenance of substation facilities would be an asset.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personal Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
  • Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e. air, land and water.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence, with appropriate class. 

Notes/Comments:
May be required to work at other locations within the province, and where transportation between these sites may be by small aircraft.

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $47.32-$65.33 Hourly, $90,677.86-$125,192.08 Annually.
