Introduction
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is running a competition to fill the Water Operations Technician (EA4) position in Morris.
The Water Operations branch ensures safe and effective provincial water related infrastructure through the delivery of inspection, planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction activities. The Branch is responsible for the overall management of infrastructure inventory that includes: drains, dams, flood protection dikes, diversions, bridges, culverts and pumping stations.

Must possess and maintain a valid full class 5 driver’s licence.
Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including continuously standing, walking, sitting, and lifting and carrying up to 25 kg.
Must be able to work for extended hours and periods of time.
Must be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province by ground, air or water transportation and be away overnight for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures.
Must be able to work in a field office environment (vehicle and project sites).
Qualifications:
Essential:
Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of the Department Level 3 training courses. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Experience with survey practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of construction specifications, procedures, and guidelines.
Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities in order to meet objectives and deadlines.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to plan and organize staff over short periods of time.
Duties:
The Water Operations Technician (WOT) reports to the Superintendent and has responsibility for department staff on a project site. The WOT position consists of the following: project coordinator, senior waterway inspector, survey crew chief, hydrometric survey technician, design, and graphics technician.
The Water Operations Technician (WOT) performs assigned moderate technical engineering related functions and is responsible for independent decisions related to hour-to-hour operations, insuring department standards, specifications, policies, procedures and sound construction and survey practices are followed, when employed in field operations. When working as a design and graphics technician, the WOT produces preliminary construction drawings from raw survey data.
