BACKGROUND:
SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 32 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 87,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process. 
 
OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Pathways to Healing Program Manager, the MMIWG2S+ Liaison works with southern First Nation citizens and communities, connecting the families of MMIWG2S+ with culturally safe and trauma-informed supports, which may include triage of services to SCO’s Mobile Crisis Response Team. They will advocate for the implementation of the National Inquiry’s Calls for Justice. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·         Serve as a point of contact for the family members of the MMIWG2S+, providing support, referrals, information, advocacy, and system navigation
·         Advocate for laws, policies, and programs in support of No More Stolen Sisters in line with the National Inquiry’s Call for Justice
·         Collaborate with the network of partners, agencies, and organizations to provide holistic support to the family members of MMIWG2S+
·         Assist in planning and organizing SCO and community gatherings, events, and ceremonies for MMIWG2S+ family members
·         Provide support to family members during community gatherings, events, and ceremonies, responding with sensitivity and understanding to experiences and expressions of trauma, with follow up referrals made to community resources as required
·         Develop a resource list of healing and wellness programs, services, and supports available for families, including traditional Anishinaabe and Dakota healing and wellness initiatives
·         Identify areas where programs, services, and supports do not exist and advocate to fill gaps in services
·         Coordinate services to effectively triage health and wellness services and/or SCO’s Mobile Crisis Response Team
·         Additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, social services, counselling, Indigenous Studies, or a related field/discipline
·         Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in a social support capacity, preferably within Indigenous communities or organizations
·         Ability to interpret the needs of and empathize with families of MMIWG2S+, many of whom struggle with grief and loss
·         Knowledge of the impacts of colonization, Indian Residential and Day Schools, the 60’s Scoop, MMIWG2S+, the Child Welfare System, and intergenerational trauma
·         Appreciation of the significance of Anishinaabe and Dakota ancestral teachings, language, songs, and ceremonies in promoting health and wellness and respect for community protocols as they pertain to traditional gatherings
·         Extensive knowledge of systemic barriers, community resources, systems navigation, and referral options
·         Demonstrated success networking and cultivating trusted relationships and partnerships with Indigenous communities and organizations
·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
·         Must be skilled in working with the internet, Windows platforms, and Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
·         Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota is considered an asset

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
·         Must provide a current and satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector check, and current and clear Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks
·         A valid class 5 MB driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for business travel
·         Must have flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends for occasional meetings, gatherings, and travel
·         If a candidate is a member of a registered profession, the candidate must be a member in a good standing of their regulatory body

 

POSTED WAGE RANGE: $55,000 - $65,000 Annually
