Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary degree in a field related to education (Master’s in Education preferred) or suitable combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of the philosophy of inclusion in Manitoba schools.
- Significant leadership experience in developing, managing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholder groups, and other government department officials including working with senior management.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to gain the respect/cooperation of a broad range of department staff, as well as committees, school administrators, professional personnel, and stakeholders in the larger educational community.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft original materials for use by senior officials, written in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a variety of complex projects with short timelines.
- Highly developed political acumen for navigating sensitive and confidential issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills including a demonstrated ability to think creatively and innovatively.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and experience working under pressure, managing multiple priorities in tight timelines.
Desired:
- A high degree of specialized current knowledge, skills and experience related to the delivery of services for students who are Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI).
- Supervisory experience including making decisions on staffing, resources and work assignments, as well as setting overall direction, inspiring a team and connecting unit actions to broader department objectives.
- Financial management experience.
Duties:
The Coordinator is accountable for the operation of the Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI) Unit in respect to staffing, work assignments and resources. This position is required to oversee the provincial program mandate including, but not limited to, services for students who are blind/visually impaired, the provision of specialized resources and assistive technology, the production of alternate format materials and the operation of the Alternate Formats Collection and the Online Resources for Manitoba Educators. The Coordinator provides key communication regarding BVI services and other activities related to departmental and inter-departmental initiatives.
