Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as a Professional Engineer
  • Must be able to perform field work which requires walking through rough terrain and carrying up to 20lbs
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout the province as required
  • Must be able to work overtime and outside of regular working hours as required
Qualifications:
Essential: 
  • Post-secondary education in an environmental-related discipline of engineering (e.g., civil, environmental, bio systems engineering).  An equivalent combination of related education, specialized technical training, and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in environmental engineering including one or more of the following: solid waste, manure management, wastewater treatment and disposal, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Ability to read construction plans and learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments/projects.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and develop effective working relationships at all levels, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of stakeholders, conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written communication skills including experience writing various technical documents to support project planning and execution, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively deliver services in a high volume and tight deadline environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Teams, Access and Outlook.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of The Environment Act, Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation Act, Livestock and Manure Mortalities Management regulations and other associated regulations.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health work practices.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French.

Duties:
The Environmental Engineer provides engineering advice and technical guidance, inspections, and review of engineering design and construction reports and drawings. They are also responsible for the following:
  • Managing and processing applications for approval involving the management of manure and the collection, treatment and disposal of municipal wastewater, to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the engineering design of the facilities and proposed mitigation measures.
  • Managing and processing applications for approval involving the management, processing and disposal of solid waste, including composting, to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the engineering design of the facilities and proposed mitigation measures.
