We are seeking candidates that reside north of the 53rd parallel (The Pas, Thompson) interested in training for a career as a Power Electrician. All training is fully paid.
The Power Electrician Northern Trades Development Program is a 12-month fully paid program that provides northern candidates with on-the-job training and academic upgrading to meet the minimum requirements to compete for a position in the Power Electrician Training Program. During your paid training, you will be stationed at various locations throughout the province.
There will be approximately one month of orientation and onboarding in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, followed by academic upgrading in the North. Following orientation, your training will take place in various locations throughout the province, including the North.

While there is no guarantee of ongoing employment at the completion of the Power Electrician Northern Trades Development Program, those who successfully complete the training will be considered for the 4-Year Power Electrician Apprenticeship Program.
Responsibilities:
Power Electricians construct, maintain, and commission electrical apparatus used in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and converter systems:
- Assist Technicians and Journeypersons to install, test, and perform regular maintenance on equipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting, making necessary repairs under regular and emergency conditions.
Trainees must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and are expected to follow all safety protocols and Safe Work Procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence (intermediate or full).
- Maintain a level of physical fitness and mental alertness appropriate for the duties you are performing.
- Physical coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift heavy objects from a variety of physical positions.
- Able to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations.
- Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to work autonomously and make decisions in stressful situations.
- Have good hearing and accurate colour perception.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Be willing to acquire an approved set of personal hand tools.

As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to write standardized aptitude tests that assess how well a candidate's abilities match the requirements of the job. Candidates will also participate a 1-day pre-employment skills assessment and trade orientation session, which provides candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate job-related skills such as following instructions, handling tools, measuring and cutting, and following blueprints; a job-related physical assessment will also be conducted. Candidates selected for this session will be required to provide a current driver's abstract.
