ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
Firelight is an Indigenous-owned consultancy that provides research and technical support to Indigenous Nations and organizations across Turtle Island. We specialize in six core areas: Livelihoods (Indigenous Knowledge Research, Socio-Economics), Indigenous-led Assessment, Indigenous Negotiations, Mapping & GIS, Stewardship (Ecology, Planning, Implementation), and Health.

Majority-owned by First Nations individuals from Ebb & Flow First Nation (MB), Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in (YK), and Garden River First Nation (ON), our work is grounded in community values and guided by the principles of relationships, accountability, quality, and responsibility.

Since 2010, Firelight has supported over 250 clients and delivered more than 1,000 projects focused on Indigenous rights, knowledge, and self-determination. Our growing team of 100+ professionals works remotely across Canada, with offices in West Vancouver, Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg and Edmonton.


JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the People & Culture Director, the People & Culture Manager is responsible for cultivating a positive, high-performing, and safe work environment by developing and implementing strategies and processes for talent acquisition, health and safety, employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, and fostering a strong organizational culture aligned with Firelight’s values and Indigenous principles.


RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment, ensuring equitable and inclusive hiring practices that support Indigenous representation.
  • Oversee day-to-day HR operations, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and HR systems.
  • Serve as the operational lead for Health & Safety, coordinating the committee, training, and incident follow-up.
  • Mentor and coach the People & Culture Coordinator and act as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
  • Support organizational culture by fostering collaboration, accountability, and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with employment and occupational health & safety legislation and internal policies.


QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; CPHR designation is an asset.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Knowledge of employment standards, HR best practices, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Experience coordinating recruitment, onboarding
  • Experience with a workplace Health & Safety committee.
  • Demonstrated Indigenous cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous knowledge and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with systems such as BambooHR, LinkedIn Recruiter, Google Office would be an asset.
