Introduction
The Tax Auditor position is an intermediate level position within the Audit Branch offering work-life balance, flexibility in work scheduling, comprehensive benefits, educational support and development, and opportunities for advancement. 

Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications:

Essential: 
  • Professional accounting designation (Canadian CPA). Suitable combinations of related education, audit experience, and training may be considered.
  • Extensive auditing experience including performing comprehensive financial, compliance and/or operational audits.
  • Extensive accounting experience.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop respectful and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook and Excel or any other accounting related software. 

Desired: 
  • Experience in interpreting, explaining and applying legislation and regulations in a regulatory environment.
  • Experience supervising and training staff.
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted audit software and techniques.
Duties:
The Tax Auditor (TX2) position involves the audit of medium to large business concerns under the various statutes administered by The Taxation Division including The Retail Sales Tax Act, The Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act and The Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act. The incumbent is responsible, with a minimum of supervision, to complete and finalize audits with senior officials of the businesses and will be required to provide interpretations of taxation statutes to taxpayers, accountants, lawyers, and the general public. Under the direction of a Senior Auditor, the incumbent may be responsible for the audit of a specific area of the most complex business concerns. The position is required to perform audits within and outside of the province, as well as perform audits that may require computer-assisted audit software and techniques.
