We are seeking candidates that are qualified as Journeyperson Power Line Technicians to join Manitoba Hydro. Power Line Technicians construct, maintain, and repair electrical power transmission and distribution systems. 

This posting will be used to select candidates for various start dates. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for assessment or interview throughout the year.

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with customers to ensure customers service requirements are met within Corporate Policy and guidelines.
  • Perform maintenance to distribution systems through inspections, planned programs, and system emergencies.
  • Provide standby duties and system restoration.
  • Perform authorized switching.
  • Assist in directing, instructing, and training staff, ensuring adherence of safety rules and Corporate Policies and procedures.
  • May be required to:
    - Work outside of assigned headquarters zone.
    - Work on or lead a Customer Service Centre work crew.
    - Assist with live line work and URD distribution.

Qualifications:
  • Possess a Power Line Journeyperson/Technician Certificate or equivalent as determined by Manitoba Hydro.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety rules, policies, practices, and standards that affect the operation of the Customer Service Centre, including the Safety Management System, Safety and Occupational Health Rules, WHMIS, Handling and Storage of Dangerous Goods, and the IBEW Collective Agreement.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical principals, wiring, and distribution.
  • Possess the following:
    - Manitoba Hydro approved set of climbing spurs, body and safety belt, and Power Line Journeyperson/Technician hand tools.
    - Valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence or equivalent.
    - Possess or will be required to obtain a Manitoba Hydro Equipment Operators Permit appropriate to the equipment to be operated.
  • Physically capable of performing all duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret all types of drawings related to the position and work being performed.
  • Possess demonstrated good judgement, capable of making decisions, and able to complete assignments with minimal direction.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and capable of communicating both orally and in writing.
  • Capable of dealing in a firm, tactful, and courteous manner with customers and employees by phone or personal contact.
  • Must have the ability to travel extensively using all modes of transportation and live away from home for extended periods of time if required.

Note: Candidates will be assessed for experience and may be expected to complete training and assessments specific to the Power Line Technician trade and Manitoba Hydro's safe work procedures.

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $42.43-$51.96 Hourly, $81,304.60-$99,573.24 Annually.
