Introduction
The Training and Employment Branch of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation is looking to add a Career Development Consultant to the dynamic team in Thompson.
Thompson, known as the "Hub of the North", is one of Manitoba's more remote destinations. This industrious mining town with proud Indigenous identity is located approximately 760 kilometers north of Winnipeg. The Career Development Consultant is responsible for assessing client’s prior learning, skills and interests related to labour market needs and training opportunities. They support the clients to develop informed, appropriate and attainable employment and training goals, formulate an action plan, negotiate and case and financial manage supports while attending approved training. The Consultant develops and maintains partnerships with community organizations and employers to link unemployed individuals to the resources that meet community and provincial labour market needs.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Experience providing counselling services while applying case management principles.
Experience providing coaching and mentoring services to diverse clientele.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, external organizations, and members of the public
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to make sound judgement.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate and lead stakeholder meetings/presentations.
Excellent written communication skills.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Desired:
Post-secondary education related to counselling, social sciences, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge supporting individuals with barriers to employment including developing return to work plans and negotiating financial supports.
Knowledge of Northern Manitoba’s labour market, employers, community agencies and programs, including employment and training programs and services.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Full Driver's Licence.
Must be able to travel to remote communities utilizing various methods of transportation including but not limited to small plane, ferry, ice roads, etc.
Must be able to travel including evenings and overnight stay as required.
