Introduction
The Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness is organized into several divisions that are responsible for a wide range of programs and services that are delivered by the department, or by community-based partner organizations. Manitoba Housing provides a wide range of subsidized housing throughout the province of Manitoba. We partner with other governments, community organizations and private groups to create safe and affordable housing.
Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Portfolio Management or designate, the Asset Specialist is responsible for providing technical advice to senior management, procurement services, property managers, and maintenance staff. The position is responsible for the project management of capital projects, insurance claim, coordination and scheduling of trades staff, contractors and building superintendents to complete specialized maintenance. This may include renovation and reconstruction, technical repair work and efficient and safe installation of equipment with minimum disruption to commercial and residential tenants.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate in commercial construction or a related field (including Interior Design, Architecture, Facility Management and Engineering). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience coordinating and planning all phases of construction and facility-related projects, including defining project scope, budgeting, scheduling, tendering, and implementation and providing ongoing technical advice.
Experience reviewing construction documentation and interpreting sketches and as-built drawings.
Experience providing customer service to a diverse range of client groups, including elected officials, managers, technical and trades staff.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage, prioritize and meet competing deadlines.
Effective verbal communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
Excellent written communication skills and the ability to prepare written correspondence.
Strong understanding of current Building Codes, relevant legislation, municipal bylaws, and industry best practices related to construction.
Experience using Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
Desired:
Design experience, including experience with computer assisted drafting software (AutoCAD).
Knowledge of green building practices and sustainable construction methods.
