Duties:
We are seeking a Mines Inspector (Electrical). This position is responsible for the inspection of electrical equipment and installations in mining to ensure compliance the Operation of Mines Regulation, Workplace Safety and Health Regulation, the Canada Electrical Code, CSA standard for use of electricity in Mines and other related standards. The position is also responsible for general enforcement of the Workplace Safety and Health Act, its associated regulations and other legislation for which the Branch has enforcement authority in other sectors, in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Essential: 
  • A journey person commercial/industrial electrical licence with experience installing or inspecting electrical systems or a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists Manitoba (EGBC) may also be considered. 
  • Experience working in the electrical field, with strong, working knowledge of the Canada Electrical Code and its ancillary standards. Education and experience in the mining industry is an asset.
  • Experience interpreting acts, regulations, standards and guidelines on matters related to electrical safety and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally with others and foster positive relationships.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a professional and effective manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and logical reasoning in decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with computers and  Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and related documents in a clear, concise manner.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to provide a class 5F driver's license and able to operate a government owned/leased vehicle
  • Must be able to provide and maintain  a satisfactory criminal record check
  • Ability to travel throughout the Province and stay overnight as required to carry-out responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions including outside
  • Ability to engage in prolonged walking, standing and sitting, as well as navigating uneven terrain, with occassional ladder or stair climbing, crawling, bending and kneeling
