Introduction
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is responsible for establishing and managing public infrastructure, including: provincial highways and roads, highway bridges and structures, water and flood control works, and northern airports and marine services. It develops, communicates and administers motor carrier regulatory and safety services. The department also oversees and coordinates emergency preparedness, emergency response and disaster recovery to prevent the loss of life and minimize damages to property and the environment.
The Area Works Supervisor provides on-site supervision and coordination of the workforce, equipment, and materials to deliver a consistent uniform program within the Province of Manitoba. Coordinates work to meet overall program and client / stakeholder needs. The Area Works Supervisor also prepares documentation related to time and attendance, material quantity, equipment usage, changes to project, lodging and expenses.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Experience related to bridge maintenance operations. Related training and experience may be considered.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of commonly used bridge maintenance equipment. Other related experience may be considered.
Supervisory experience including staff, the organization of labour, equipment, and materials to perform assigned work activities.
Knowledge of related acts, regulations, policies and procedures as they pertain to the maintenance operations including, but not limited to: The Highway Traffic Act, Departmental Policies and Procedures, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Occupational, Health & Risk Management.
Effective interpersonal skills, which include the ability to interact professionally and courteously with other employees, the general public, contractors, provincial departments, agencies and stakeholders, etc.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety, policies and legislation.
Excellent written communication skills and ability to prepare reports.
Effective verbal communication skills.
Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Experience with computer applications and software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer).
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Drivers Licence without restrictions and be able to upgrade to Class 3 with air break endorsement within 6 months of hired.
Must be able to work extended hours, including overtime evenings and/or weekends including statutory holidays as required.
Must be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties (lifting/carrying 0-30 kg, walking on rough terrain, sitting and standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles and wearing personal protective equipment.
Must be able to respond to work within 30 minutes of call.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions, and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold.
