Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Assistant to join our Telecommunications Department. Under limited supervision of the Projects and Contract Team 1 Lead, the Technical Assistant will produce complex cable routing map drawings and a wide variety of communication system drawings using AutoCAD and GE Smallworld. This position will also administer, populate, maintain, and troubleshoot the Manitoba Hydro Telecommunications department GE Smallworld database.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate Telecommunication design drawings related to Telecommunications systems.
- Compile and track on going drafting or cGIS service requests.
- Build and maintain the Telecommunications GIS database to reflect the network. This includes the configuration of the Physical Network Infrastructure (PNI) & Logical Network Infrastructure (LNI) schematics.
- Convert digital mapping files to AutoCAD format.
- Keep up with current software technology and standards to produce geographical design drawings.
- Coordinate and troubleshoot errors and conflict resolution with telecommunications designers and provide support when necessary.
- May represent the department on drafting or standards user groups to keep current on corporate standards, software, and procedures.
- Collaborate with other design departments to establish and improve upon drawing standards.
Qualifications:
- A two year diploma in a relevant discipline from an institute of recognized standing and two years work experience directly related to Geographical Information Systems and computer aided drafting (CAD);
OR - Grade 12 and a one year Drafting certificate from an institute of recognized standing plus a minimum of three years experience directly related to Geographical Information Systems and computer aided drafting (CAD) experience.
- Telecommunications experience is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the latest version of AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated ability and experience with GIS applications.
- Thorough knowledge of map projections, coordinate systems, horizontal and vertical datums and the associated calculations to determine accuracy, adjustment, and transformations.
- Demonstrated ability to work from detailed sketches, legal survey and engineering plans, contour maps, orthophotos and air photos.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to hire date and renewed annually.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
- Ability to travel if required.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $31.94-$44.18 Hourly, $61,202.96-$84,652.88 Annually.
