Brandon University seeks an energetic and dynamic professional to serve as a full-time Indigenous Recruitment & Transition Officer in a continuing appointment. Reporting to the Director of Recruitment and Retention, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in the recruitment and retention of students, with a primary focus on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. The position requires extensive travelling, which may be up to 4-5 days per week during specific times of year. Duties for the Indigenous Recruitment & Transition Officer include but are not limited to:
a) Participate in the development and delivery of the University’s off-campus and on-campus recruitment campaign, focusing primarily on Indigenous students
b) Serve as a contact between middle-years schools, secondary schools, adult learning centres, and the University, including attending relevant school and community events.
c) Participate in recruitment travel and planning, including (but not limited to) the Manitoba Indigenous recruitment group
d) Create and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, students, and funders
e) Provide positive programming and experiences on the Brandon University campus for visiting Indigenous students
f) Provide and deliver information about programs and services to students while being informed of changes and updates.
g) Participate in transition to university initiatives (e.g. first-year advising, orientation, etc.) and provide direct support for the University’s retention programming and events
h) Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the Director, Recruitment & Retention.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree is required, and two years of related experience is preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Bachelor’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, including public speaking and any submitted written documents, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of Indigenous culture, experience working with Indigenous learners, and experience working with Indigenous post-secondary sponsors and funding agencies will be considered assets. Experience in planning and carrying out events is also considered an asset.
This position has been defined to have an Indigenous focus, and preference will be given to appropriately qualified candidates of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Non-Status identity and/or citizenship. Qualified short-listed candidates will be required to engage in a process to substantiate their Indigenous identity and/or citizenship in a culturally appropriate, fair, equitable, and transparent manner.
