Introduction
The Department of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is seeking highly-motivated individuals to fill the role of Patrol Captain. Draw from your experience in law enforcement and help promote public safety within Manitoba provincial parks.
Duties:
As a Patrol Captain, you will be responsible for supervising Patrol Officers and will participate in the Patrol Officer program within a specified district. You will ensure the safety of the general public and resource users, investigate violations and complaints, gather evidence, prepare enforcement documents, and carry through on investigations to a successful prosecution. Upon completion of the park season, you will be responsible for making recommendations and preparing end of season reports. Additionally, you may perform duties relating to human-wildlife conflict and provide assistance to staff in various resource disciplines.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Prior to May 2026, completion of year two of a recognized Resource Management diploma or degree program, or a graduate from a recognized law enforcement diploma program or Police Studies program; or year three of an undergraduate degree in the studies of Law, Environmental Studies/Sciences, with a minimum of 3 credit hours of law courses satisfactory to the department, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience satisfactory to the department. *Applicants are required to submit a copy of their course transcript along with their application.
Experience in law enforcement and legislative compliance applicable to natural resources.
Ability to make decisions and problem solve.
Strong leadership skills.
Ability to work effectively under stress.
Ability to work independently under limited supervision, with good time management skills.
Ability to coach, train, and mentor others on the job in basic skills and best practices.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Strong written communication skills.
Desired:
Experience supervising employees.
Knowledge and understanding of Conservation Officer Service operational directives, policies, and procedures.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be eligible for appointment as a Patrol Officer.
Must successfully complete the mandatory Patrol Officer Orientation Course, which includes Subject Control training.
Must possess a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted. Must possess and maintain current Standard First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR Level C) certificates or an approved equivalent by date of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid, full stage Manitoba Class 4 driver's licence or an equivalent out of province licence that permits the operations of emergency vehicles by date acceptable to the employer. A current valid original drivers enforce or abstract must be obtained.
Must be willing and able to work irregular shifts: including evenings, weekends and overtime.
Must be willing and able to travel including overnight stays for extended periods of time.
Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position including: working in various adverse weather conditions, walking over rough terrain for extended periods and lifting weights of up to 50 lbs.
