Position Overview:
We are seeking a Sub-Transmission Planning Engineer (Electrical Engineer) to join the Grid Infrastructure Planning Department. You will be responsible for identifying and initiating planning studies necessary to ensure reliable and economic expansion of the Manitoba Hydro's major electrical sub-transmission network.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise long-range system studies to assess the adequacy of Manitoba Hydro's 66 kV and 33 kV supply systems.
- Develop facility expansion plans to provide reliable and economical supply for future loads, including recommendations for adding terminal station transformer capacity and associated high voltage facilities.
- Prepare study reports, capital project justifications and single line diagrams to secure approval of budgetary funding for recommended capital projects.
- Investigate the reliability performance of the 66 kV and 33 kV systems and recommend enhancements to upgrade network to maintain acceptable customer service reliability.
- Assist in consultations with external customers to provide technical information on interconnection options, including meeting with customer representatives and customers to negotiate and resolve issues related to interconnection options.
- Investigate system capability to maintain power quality such as proposed customer motor-starting requirements and identify options for system improvements.
- Conduct and prepare data for analytical studies of equipment ratings, fault levels, transient system performance and equipment ratings associated with planned transmission improvements using PSS/E, PSCAD, and DSAtools modelling software.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of six years of power systems experience, of which two years must be directly related to the analysis and planning of electrical power systems.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Must have completed Standards of Conduct training or be willing to complete within two weeks of start date.
- Experience conducting load flow, voltage stability and specialized power system studies.
- Provide innovative solutions in power system planning and demonstrate an ability to plan and carry out complex study work, analysis of results, and preparation of technical reports.
- A good working knowledge of the power system equipment, including its applications and limitations would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with personnel both orally and in writing within the Corporation and with manufacturers, consultants, and other utility representatives.
- Proven ability to carry out assigned duties with mature judgment and minimum supervision.
- Must be able to work on project study teams and to work effectively with others on committees, subcommittees and/or working groups.
- A master's degree and/or post-graduate courses in power systems particularly voltage stability, transient stability and FACTS devices would be an asset.
- Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $47.32-$65.33 Hourly, $90,677.86-$125,192.08 Annually.
