Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Strategy and Content Supervisor, the Communications Advisor will work collaboratively with colleagues across the enterprise to align communications with corporate objectives and the brand identity. This includes using tools to assess perceptions of key internal and external audiences. You will also develop creative approaches, communications strategies, write copy and supervise completion of campaigns through their execution. This is a term position for a period of approximately 12 months.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize enhanced public opinion assessment tools to evaluate and measure perceptions of Manitoba Hydro both internally and externally.
  • Work with other internal groups to establish brand identity and help align all marketing, customer service and corporate communications messaging.
  • Direct and coordinate other staff within Corporate Communications and Marketing Services as well as external suppliers in creating materials to promote a cohesive corporate narrative and approach to all communications.
  • Act as client account manager, including developing the necessary contacts, providing the communication advice and coordinating the services needed by assigned corporate group(s).
  • Represent Corporate Communications on various internal committees and teams as required.
  • Assist Strategy and Content Supervisor and Director of Corporate Communications with external communications, including media relations, drafting news releases, executive speeches, event planning, preparing newsletters, brochures and reports, video scripts, and by providing advice and guidance to other corporate departments or project teams.
  • As required, speak on behalf of the corporation to media or at external events, includes answering after-hours media inquiries related to power outages or other emergency incidents.
  • Contribute to development of divisional business plan and strategy.  

Qualifications:
  • A four year degree from a university of recognized standing in communications, marketing or a related field plus a minimum of two years directly related experience; 
    OR
  • Two year diploma in Creative Communications from an institute of recognized standing and minimum four years related experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including experience writing and editing articles, news releases and speeches.
  • Experience working in external and/or internal communications, including media relations, advertising, and event planning.
  • Working knowledge of various production services including photography, graphic design, video production, print and web publishing.
  • Good understanding of issues related to energy industry in Manitoba.
  • Mature judgment, discretion and ability to handle material which is confidential or sensitive in nature. 
  • Must be creative, self-motivated and capable of achieving broadly defined objectives.
  • Ability to work after-hours and on weekends as required.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the province, often to remote and difficult to access locations.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's License with appropriate class. 

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $35.94-$49.73 Hourly, $68,873.74-$95,300.14 Annually.
