Introduction
Manitoba Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures, Fisheries Branch, is seeking a qualified individual to join the fisheries team. Duties:
The Northwest Region's Assistant Fisheries Technician's primary role will be to assist regional staff throughout the northern part of the province in conducting annual index gillnetting programs in various locations.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Minimum one year post-secondary studies in resource management or biological sciences . An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
Ability to identify fish species with a knowledge of fish community and fish habitat assessment methodologies.
Strong organizational and time management skills including ability to record, compile, and manage large data sets.
Ability to work effectively in a team.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience in the safe operation of 4x4 trucks while towing trailers.
Desired:
Experience using Microsoft Excel including entering and manipulating biological data.
Experience operating boats including knowledge of safe boating practices.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be willing and able to work overtime, weekends and evenings.
Must be able to work a 10 days on/4 days off schedule as needed.
Must be willing and able to work in rural field locations, on lakes and on rivers as required, which may include inclement weather.
Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position, including the ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 30 kg.
Must possess and maintain a current and valid full stage Manitoba Class 5F Driver's Licence or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Licence.
