Hours:  Casual Shifts– Must have availability to work up to, two 8 hour shifts a week and two full weekends a month

Ikwe Widdjiitiwin Inc is an Indigenous domestic and family shelter. Our mission is to support Indigenous women and their children end domestic and family violence, by offering shelter during crisis and nurturing hope, change and empowerment for tomorrow.

Position: Under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with shelter standards, philosophy and goals, the Resident Support Worker functions as a member of a team in providing supportive services designed to support women in their recovery from the effects of abuse by an intimate partner or family member. The worker acts as a role model, guide, counsellor, and advocate to assist residents in recognizing their current needs and goals, to make informed decisions and develop healthy relationships. The Residential Support Worker is expected to work with families in a mutual effort to confront and to overcome those conditions that have contributed to personal difficulties and to do so in a manner that encourages self-awareness, self-worth and increased independence.

QUALIFICATIONS: ·       

B.S.W. preferred or some university-related study towards a degree in the field of human services and a minimum of two years related experience.
OR ·       
Applied Counselling Certificate and a minimum of two years of related experience. ·     
OR 
Certificate (2 years) in the field of human services and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience;                                                         
OR
·       
Other equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. ·       

Knowledge of the Indigenous culture and customs, community needs and Indigenous Women’s issues is essential. ·
Must be aware of the effects of abuse in all forms as well as the recognition of the needs associated with healing and ways to meet those needs.        Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.   
Proven ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.         
Comprehensive knowledge and skills as a counsellor and advocate as required.       
Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Check are mandatory. 
Knowledge of an Indigenous language is considered a definite asset.
