Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Media Relations Officer, prepares and posts online content and advertising to support the corporation's activities for delivery to, and communication with, external audiences. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on online and social media activities, developments and trends. Actively participates in cross-functional project teams, developing electronic content for various audiences and addressing online content issues. This is a term opportunity with a duration of approximately 12 months.

Responsibilities:
  • Collect/prepare and deliver relevant content (text, images, audio, video) via social media channels to actively engage our customers, influencers, and stakeholders. Maintain a social media content calendar for the corporation.
  • Assess and edit submissions of proposed online content. Develop new content approaches for social media audiences.
  • Monitor social media and, specifically, our channels. 
  • Listen and respond to customers to help them solve their issues. Identify threats and opportunities to the appropriate parties.
  • Work with internal groups/stakeholders to craft posts and responses.
  • Be proactive and creative in crafting and posting content regarding planned outages; emergency outages and work the corporation is doing to upgrade electric and natural gas services, among other topics. 
  • Research and make recommendations for online advertising, primarily within social media channels. 
  • Place advertising, perform post-campaign analysis and report back to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and advise on trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy.
  • Assist, as required, other members of the Social Media and Marketing Services teams in preparing digital content, gathering research, analyzing web-related projects.
  • May be required to monitor/respond to social media or attend meetings and events outside of normal working hours.
  • Maintain a consistent, respectful voice to represent Manitoba Hydro on its social media platforms.

Qualifications:
  • Two-year diploma in Creative Communications or related discipline, plus one year directly related experience including developing and managing social media channels/content and managing a social "community" for a company or organization.
    OR
  • Grade 12 plus completion of a one year certificate in Journalism (or other related field) plus a minimum of two years directly related experience including developing and managing social media channels/content and building a social "community" for a large company or organization.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and transforming technical information into popular communications within a predetermined "social voice".
  • Ability to identify corporate stories that are shareable in social media.
  • Ability to review and present statistical data related to web and social media.
  • Proficient with the principles of online usability and search engine optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to use new technology channels and tools (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, etc., as well as personal devices, smartphones and tablets) in researching, developing, and monitoring online corporate communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to use sound judgment in the analysis of situations and work methods.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer, both PC and Mac, with working knowledge of computer software programs associated with business activities (Word, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in planning, shooting, and editing video content using available hardware and software tools, and formatting for social media and web distribution.
  • Understanding of web design, web navigation and its relationship to web communications, and the tools used in website creation.
  • Ability to represent the corporation externally to industry and the general public in a mature and confident manner.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $29.20-$38.94 Hourly, $55,954.34-$74,614.54 Annually.
