JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Student Wellness is responsible for and has a key leadership role in the successful delivery of a holistic wellness and support services program for students attending programming at Neeginan Education, Training and Employment Services.
 
The Director of Student Wellness will provide leadership, direction and vision to the SSL team, ensuring that a fully developed Culturally Appropriate Student Wellness model is developed and delivered to the students. The Director of Student Wellness will manage and oversee the SSL team’s daily tasks and ensure that support services and practice guidelines are being adhered to while providing an effective and respectful model of service delivery that is specifically tailored to fit the day to day needs of the Student Body.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership direction and management of day to day tasks regarding the Student Support Liaison staff
  • Oversee and facilitate the development of student orientation and wellness workshops
  • Provide student crisis intervention and management as required
  • Manage and oversee the effective execution of student wellness planning and program development
  • Organize and lead the development of ongoing professional growth within the SSL team
  • Develop, cultivate and demonstrate a respectful and professional standard amongst the SSL team
  • Communicate to staff the importance and expectation of a high standard of professional behavior that is imperative when communicating with staff, faculty, students, and collaterals
  • Provide guidance and direction to the SSL team around professional development as it pertains to producing qualitative evidence-based practice initiatives towards daily SSL recordings
  • Monitor trends and directives within the student body and integrate and facilitate best practice and Campus approaches as appropriate
  • Provide post-secondary planning and student bursary and scholarship opportunities and information to student body
  • Oversee staffing issues using a solution-based focus
  • Assist and participate, as part of a team in staffing solutions as it pertain to hiring practice
  • Provide written reports and verbal correspondence to the Director of Education and Training as to the monthly (weekly) activity within the Student Support Liaison unit
  • Maintain and uphold confidentiality guidelines as outlined in policy
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of NETES
  • Other duties as assigned
 
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor degree in social work and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Superior skills in communication (verbal and written); time management; critical thinking; decision making and organizational management.
  • Ability to apply effective problem-solving with an understanding of conflict resolution and team building.
  • Experience in managing and supervising staff.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Applications and internet use.
  • Knowledge of working and managing in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous Community of Winnipeg.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
