Position Overview:
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction to a multi-disciplinary team accountable for financial reporting for Manitoba Hydro and its subsidiaries/partnerships, as well as fixed asset accounting for the Corporation. The incumbent ensures the preparation of accurate, timely, and compliant financial information that supports corporate decision making and meets internal and external reporting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Provide oversight and direction for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with IFRS. This includes preparation of the Management
- Discussion & Analysis section for Manitoba Hydro's Annual Report and notes to the financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements of KHLP & WPLP and participate in Board meetings with First Nation Partner communities including presentation of financial results.
- Manage the year end audit process by coordinating required materials and ensuring timely resolution of audit matters.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting activities, including capitalization, depreciation, and maintenance of related policies and processes. This includes the planning and management of depreciation studies.
- Review and approve financial analyses, schedules, and documentation prepared for internal and external reporting.
- Guide the team in researching complex accounting issues and implementing new accounting standards.
- Support regulatory activities related to rate applications and interpretation of accounting matters as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Corporate Controller Business Plan.
- As a member of the Corporate Controller leadership team provide leadership and direction with respect to enhancing key business processes.
Qualifications:
- Four-year degree plus Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least eight years of experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with a working understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Advanced understanding of operating, capital, fixed asset, and depreciation processes, and how they integrate into financial reporting.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to work productively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, building effective relationships to support organizational objectives.
- Proven capability to provide sound leadership in planning, organizing, and managing multiple activities within tight timelines.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in the preparation and review of financial statements and reporting, ensuring information is accurate and prepared in accordance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of the energy industry and the markets in which Manitoba Hydro operates would be considered an asset.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $62.82-$86.07 Hourly, $120,372.72-$164,936.72 Annually.
