Introduction
The Protection for Persons in Care Office is hiring new Investigators to join our team! This position will provide many unique opportunities for learning, growth and development in the field of investigation, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, abuse and neglect prevention and ongoing policy analysis and review.
The Protection for Persons in Care Office (PPCO) of Health, Seniors and Long Term Care operates under the authority of the Protection for Persons in Care Act and receives, inquires, and where appropriate, investigates reports of suspected patient abuse and neglect in health care facilities across the province.
The Protection for Persons in Care Act (the Act) is a law to help protect adults from abuse and neglect while receiving care in personal care homes, hospitals or any other designated health facility. This position is responsible for the coordination of inquiries and investigations in complex and sensitive situations reported to the Office on behalf of the Minister as mandated in the Act.

Reporting to the Director of the Protection for Persons in Care Office, Investigators conduct fair, thorough, unbiased, and timely investigations into complex allegations of patient abuse and neglect. This includes the initial assessment of alleged abuse and neglect reports, completion of the inquiry process, planning and coordinating investigations, analysis of findings, preparation of reports and follow-up and monitoring of directions resulting from investigation. The position also collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams and provides expert case consultation services and ongoing policy analysis and review to improve services to patients and ensure protection from abuse and neglect.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Completion of post-secondary education in healthcare or social sciences. Other acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience managing complex investigations in a healthcare setting, preferably related to neglect or abuse.
Ability to maintain objectivity and impartiality throughout the investigation process.
Ability to extract, analyze, and evaluate information.
Strong time management skills to effectively manage competing priorities with tight timeframes.
Strong written communication skills, particularly as it relates to case notes and investigation reports.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Ability to foster partnerships and collaboration with internal and external clients and agencies.
Desired:
Experience facilitating meetings and making formal presentations.
Experience using databases.
Strong French verbal communication skills.
Strong French written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must provide and maintain a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search.
Must provide and maintain a current satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check.
Must be able to travel within Manitoba by vehicle and air, with occasional overnight stays.
Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Must possess valid full Class 5 (5F) driver’s licence and access to a vehicle which can be used for work purposes.
