Introduction
The Department of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Provincial Wood Measurement Coordinator with the Forestry and Peatlands Branch. 
Duties:
Reporting directly to the Section Manager of Forest Planning and Development, the Provincial Wood Measurement Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the provincial scaling (i.e., wood measurement) program, ensuring that all Crown timber harvested in Manitoba is accurately measured and its movement tracked. The responsibilities include coordination of provincial scaling activities, scaler training and certification, scaling enforcement, and scaling administration. This position brings specialized education and experience in forestry and wood measurement techniques, works closely with regional forestry staff, liaises with the forest industry, conducts audits, maintains provincial scaling records, and coordinates with timber administration staff.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Post secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related discipline.
  • Significant field experience working as a licensed timber scaler
  • Experience leading and facilitating training
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain good working relationships, interact, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders and forest industry representatives 
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid Scaling Licence in Manitoba or equivalent from another jurisdiction
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Must be able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via trucks or SUV
  • Must be able to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to 10 days, with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels or motels
  • Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions in remote locations and be physically capable of performing the duties of the position
