Duties:
Reporting to the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Monitoring and Response Program Lead and under the mandate of the Water Protection Act, the incumbent is responsible for the operational implementation of Manitoba’s AIS monitoring and response programs typically running from May to October. These programs are complex, large-scale, and Province-wide, which aim to detect new AIS invasions and respond to these invasions before they become established. The AIS monitoring program regularly monitors >100 waterbodies in all reaches of the province for zebra mussels and other invasive species. The response program involves direct management actions following a detection of an AIS that may involve physical removal, pesticide applications and other efforts. The successful candidate for this position will also use their technical expertise to provide critical operational support to other programs carried out by the AIS Unit such as the Watercraft Inspection Programs, Partnerships, Certified Service Provider, and Public Engagement programs.

Qualifications:
Essential:
Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Biology, Resource Management, Environmental Science or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience in environmental field work, including collecting and preserving aquatic samples to meet the standards for laboratory analyses.
Strong knowledge of aquatic invasive species, ability to identify them and knowledge of detection methods.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Strong organization and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads and field operations.
Strong written communication skills including experience preparing detailed field notes, technical reports, training materials, policies and/or procedures.
Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information and give presentations to diverse audiences.
Experience driving and maneuvering trucks and trailers.
Experience operating self-propelled and motorized watercraft.
Desired:
Experience with ArcGIS or equivalent software with experience producing maps.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba class 5 driver's licence without restrictions.
Must be willing and able to work irregular shifts including evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and overtime as required.
Must be willing and able to travel extensively throughout Manitoba, including driving long distances and overnight stays.
Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including lifting up to 23 kg, and working outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
Must be capable of operating various watercraft, including canoes, kayaks and motorboats, and possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
