Introduction
The Wildlife Branch's vision is to have a landscape where wildlife populations and habitat thrive and contribute to the economic and social wellbeing of Manitobans. It's mission is to protect, conserve, enhance and sustainably manage Manitoba’s wildlife populations, and habitats while respecting Aboriginal and Treaty rights and the diverse needs of Manitobans. As the tall grass prairie technician you will be working in one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America, which occurs in southeastern Manitoba within the western portion of the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn.
Duties:
Working outside for the summer you will complete surveys for rare and endangered plant and animal species within the tall grass prairie ecosystem, some of which have their only known occurrences for all of Canada at the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. Habitat assessments and other long term monitoring will be completed to document change over time for species at risk in response to active management activities. You will also develop supervisory and management skills while overseeing seasonal summer staff and project budgets.

Qualifications:
Essential:
A post-secondary degree or equivalent in biology, agriculture or related discipline, and several years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of the flora and fauna of Manitoba.
Experience using standard field techniques used in species-at-risk research and management.
Knowledge of appropriate Acts and Regulations (e.g. The Endangered Species and Ecosystems Act).
Ability to organize, analyze, present and interpret factual information and prepare reports.
Knowledge of land management and agricultural practices and their effects on species-at-risk and the habitats that support these species.
Ability to initiate, manage, and complete projects and programs with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of government and non-government agencies and individuals.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Strong written communication skills.
Desired:
Experience driving an off-road vehicle (e.g. ATV).
Experience driving a truck and loaded trailer.
Experience using a pull type brush mower for trail maintenance.
Experience using gas powered lawn care equipment (e.g. lawn mower, weed trimmer).
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess, maintain and produce at minimum a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence.
Must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays and shift work as required.
Must be willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including walking long distances on uneven ground.
Must have access to a licensed and reliable vehicle for daily use.
