Position Overview
Peguis Child and Family Services is seeking a compassionate and dependable Resource Home Support Worker to provide care and supervision for children and youth in our Resource Homes, including those with high-risk needs. This position follows a rotating monthly shift schedule to ensure continuous 24/7 coverage. The successful candidate will help create a safe, stable, and nurturing environment while working under the direction of the Specialized Foster Parent.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a positive, consistent, and reliable role model for children and youth
- Supervise and care for children during assigned shifts, including overnight shifts
- Respond calmly, safely, and effectively to crisis situations and high-risk behaviours (e.g., aggression, self-harm, substance use, or running away)
- Provide trauma-informed care, recognizing and supporting youth with complex, deep-rooted trauma related to their experiences in care
- Build trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and promoting emotional regulation and coping skills
- Support daily routines including personal hygiene, meals, school participation, and structured recreational activities
- Perform household duties such as cleaning, cooking, and laundry to maintain a safe and supportive living environment
- Escort children and youth to appointments, school, and community activities
- Administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation, including daily logs, behavioural observations, and incident reporting
Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children and youth in care or high-risk environments
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle ($2M liability coverage)
- Ability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
