Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, and as a key member of the senior management team, the Director, Gas Operations and Construction is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of the natural gas distribution assets to effectively meet the need of customers. The Director is expected to role model as a safety champion and demonstrate strong safety leadership. As a key member of the leadership team in Operations, the Director is expected to collaborate with and support the other divisions in Operations and in other business units.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the construction, design, planning, operation and maintenance of the natural gas distribution and transmission pipelines in Manitoba.
- As Chair of the Gas Operations Executive Committee (GOEC), and as a requirement of the PUB, the Director shall certify to the PUB that the Centra system has been planned, constructed, operated, and maintained in a manner that is safe, will not endanger the public and ensures operational conformance with all applicable provincial and federal acts, regulations and directives.
- Identify and inform the annual Asset Management plan for all natural gas capital requirements.
- Participate in the development of a natural gas strategy for Manitoba that defines the role for gas and the opportunities to use or blend renewable gas.
- Executes customer interface requirements according to policies/standards determined in collaboration with the Customer Solutions & Experience business unit.
- Accountable for yearly business and budget planning, associated financial management activities and alignment to enterprise success. Manages Divisional costs within budgets set by the VP Operations and tracks performance of actuals vs. forecast.
- Create and maintain an inclusive, respectful and positive work environment, and maximize employee potential through coaching and encouragement of staff development, including development planning, performance management and assessment.
- Promotes a culture aligned with Manitoba Hydro's core values, continuous improvement and innovation.
- Proactively engages in understanding safety performance and culture and its drivers to create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
- Ensures processes are in place to measure and monitor system performance (power & gas) and share best practices across all customer service teams.
- Ensures union contracts are upheld and works closely with Human Resources to resolve union grievances and manage negotiations.
- Ensures emergency response plans are developed and maintained for critical services and infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- A University Degree in an appropriate discipline with ten years of related leadership experience demonstrating progressively greater responsibility;
OR - An equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically.
- A strong coach and mentor, with an ability to inspire others and promote a compelling vision.
- Excellent experience in maintenance of operational assets of utilities.
- Excellent technical understanding of utility systems and operations.
- Comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of project management.
- Excellent understanding of Safety, Health & Environment standards and policies.
- An Institute of Asset Management Certificate in Asset Management would be considered an asset.
- Must be prepared to travel regularly, and for extended periods, outside of established work location.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $182,951.60-$228,743.58 Annually.
