Introduction
The Water Infrastructure Branch of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking qualified candidates for the role of a Flood Control Facilities Engineer.

The Flood Control Facilities Engineer is the lead engineer responsible for the oversight and maintenance of the control structures for the Red River Floodway, the Portage Diversion, the Shellmouth Dam, Fairford River and the proposed Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels. The position provides specialized engineering services for the planning, design, and implementation of maintenance and rehabilitation projects for flood control structure and flood pumping facilities. The Engineer is also responsible for the safe and effective operation of these structures through the development of training programs and operating manuals and procedures. Additionally, the Engineer provides oversight and guidance for continued maintenance and asset management of the civil infrastructure components of these flood control assets including conveyance channels, dikes, dams, and hydraulic energy dissipation structures.

Qualifications:
Essential:
Undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (master’s degree preferred)
Extensive experience with mechanical engineering design, operation of mechanical systems, and related instrumentation
Extensive experience with hydraulic systems and mechanical hoists
Experience managing construction contracts and engineering service provider assignments
Working knowledge of federal and provincial fire, building, plumbing and electrical codes
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience with ability to coach and mentor staff
Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative working relationship with various internal and external stakeholders
Ability to identify issues that need to be resolved (sometimes under emergency circumstances), be able to develop options to resolve/mitigate issues and be able to make recommendations for consideration by appropriate decision makers
Desired:
Experience managing complex mechanical facilities
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5F Driver's licence including access to a personal vehicle
Must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
Must be able to occasionally work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme weather conditions
Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba as required
