Position Overview:
Reporting to the Financial Advisory Services Supervisor (Cust Sol & Exp/HR & SC/Dig & Trans), this position will provide dedicated financial support to SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise technology initiatives, including ERP enhancements and major system replacement projects. The position works closely with Project Managers, Digital & Technology and business stakeholders to provide financial guidance, ensure effective cost management, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is responsible for supporting project budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial analysis, with a strong focus on technology-related expenditures, including operating costs, capital assets, and rate-regulated assets. The Project Accountant will help establish and monitor financial controls, ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal governance, and support the achievement of divisional, business unit, and enterprise strategic objectives related to SAP implementation and Financial Health initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert financial and accounting advice to management in support of SAP/ERP and other technology initiatives through detailed financial analysis and interpretation of results to support sound business decisions.
  • Develop, analyze, monitor, and report on project budgets, forecasts, and actual results for the SAP S/4HANA and other technology projects, including operating, capital and rate-regulated asset performance on an ongoing basis, identifying trends and variances to support management in the attainment of financial targets.
  • Provide financial oversight and guidance on project and contract expenditures, ensuring costs are recorded accurately, aligned with project plans, and compliant with capitalization, expense, and rate-regulation requirements applicable to system implementation and technology investments.
  • Support Project Managers through the design, implementation, and ongoing use of financial monitoring and reporting tools and processes to enable timely review and control of project costs.
  • Prepare, review and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports related to SAP and other technology projects to management team.
  • Participate in the development of operating, capital, and rate-regulated asset budgets related to enterprise systems, digital transformation, and technology initiatives, including multi-year project planning.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and reporting systems are designed, developed and maintained to meet internal management needs, audit requirements, and corporate governance standards for large-scale system implementations.
  • Review operating approval documents and operational business cases to ensure financial analysis is complete, assumptions are reasonable, all relevant costs are captured, and recommendations align with enterprise strategic priorities.
  • Prepare specialized analyses and reports related to project accounting, system implementation costs, capitalization assessments, cloud computing arrangements contracts and financial risk, including evaluation of alternatives and recommendations for management consideration.

Qualifications:
  • A Professional Accounting designation (CPA) and two years of related experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with staff at all levels.
  • Knowledge of accounting considerations related to ERP implementations, cloud computing arrangements, system development costs, and capitalization versus expense assessments would be considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial, cost and project accounting principles and practices, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial and accounting information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced working knowledge of financial systems including SAP, Business Warehouse, BPS and C55 systems would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of products with a high level of expertise in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross functional teams and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $44.75-$61.75 Hourly, $85,745.40-$118,316.64 Annually.
