Position Overview:
We are seeking a Distribution Contract Engineer to join our Distribution Engineering Department. Under the direction of the Distribution Engineering Contract Section Head, the Distribution Contract Engineer shall provide professional oversight and guidance for distribution designs completed by contractors. The professional engineer is required to draft technical RFS (Request for Service) contracts and liaise primarily with Contractors, Distribution Planning, Construction, Energy Services, Procurement and Distribution Operations & Maintenance to ensure contracted projects are issued, designed, and constructed in compliance with Manitoba Hydro standards.
NOTE: The headquarter zone for this position will be in one of several locations, depending on our operational requirements: Winnipeg - 360 Portage Avenue, Brandon - 235 10th Street or Selkirk - 177 Main Street.
Responsibilities:
- Assume quality assurance and professional oversight on contracted distribution engineering projects for electrical system additions and modifications while ensuring the safety and compliance with Manitoba Hydro's 66kV and Below Standards.
- Compose, issue & award RFS (request for service) contracts for distribution projects while engaging Procurement to ensure documentation and consulting services are satisfactory.
- Provide direction and technical distribution guidance to contractors, internal stakeholders and junior staff members.
- Inspect and evaluate distribution contract work packages to ensure planning recommendations & technical reference documents align with the design.
- Liaise with Contractors, Procurement, Energy Services & Sales, Distribution Planning, Distribution Construction, and Distribution Operations & Maintenance to meet customer needs, establish system improvement requirements and ensure milestones on distribution contracted projects are achieved.
- Perform field site inspections to oversee projects and investigate technical hurdles.
- Ensure drawing as-builts received are an accurate representation of what was constructed and complies with Manitoba Hydro 66kV and Below Standards.
- Recommend and facilitate the development and operation of new and existing electrical distribution design software applications used by the department.
- Instruct at Manitoba Hydro Training and Development Programs as required.
- Perform special assignments, studies, and research associated with Distribution Engineering Contracts.
- Prepare formal reports for documentation and approval.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum of six years related experience, and a broad knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
- NOTE: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in a related discipline with an acceptable exposure to Electrical Transmission or Distribution System Design will be considered.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Demonstrated knowledge of CSA Standards for both Overhead and Underground Distribution Systems (66kV and Below).
- Good understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in electrical distribution.
- Good understanding of Customer Policy Application.
- Demonstrated ability in report writing and in preparing and making oral presentations.
- Capable of devising new methods or modifying standard principles or practices to new or changing conditions.
- Good knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Must be enthusiastic and display initiative in resolving complex and adverse technical problems.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
