ABOUT THE TEAM
The Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance team is a supportive and experienced crew of landscaping professionals. Together, the team is accountable for snow removal, lawn maintenance, de-icing, plant life and grounds beautification, as well as large landscape construction projects. This team is dedicated to creating an attractive campus environment that reflects the pride they take in their work, while ensuring safety for students, staff, and visitors. As a member of this team, you'll bring a positive attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. You'll see the results of your work immediately and help design and maintain spaces everyone can enjoy.
 
WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will perform a variety of landscape maintenance, installation and beautification tasks to assist in the care of College grounds. Under the guidance and supervision of the technicians, you will assist with installation and care for woody plant materials, perennials, annuals, turf and interior plant collections and follow-up watering. In times of operational need, you may perform other landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks, including assistance with various event set-ups and teardowns.
 
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience may be considered
  • Significant Landscape & Horticulture experience  
  • Strong work ethic, and works well with others
  • Strong ability to self-initiate tasks
  • Strong accountability skills
  • Experience operating maintenance equipment such as mowing units, tractors, loaders, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
 
NICE TO HAVE
  • Experience in horticulture, grounds maintenance, landscaping or a related field of study
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license
  • Grounds maintenance equipment operation experience (summer and/or winter)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Collegial personality (works well with others)
  • Experience performing minor repairs to ground maintenance equipment

  • Salary Range for this position:  $21.09 - $29.73 hourly
  • Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part-time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable
  • December Break: employees receive time off with pay during the period between Boxing Day and New Year's Day

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • This position is subject to audiometric assessments 
  • Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  • May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
  • Incumbent must be physically able to lift items weighing up to 50lbs.
