POSITION OVERVIEW
The Student Support Services Coordinator is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate programming for students with exceptional learning, social/emotional, behavioral, physical, and special health-care needs. A demonstrated respect for First Nations knowledge, languages and cultures; and fluency in a First Nations Language is desirable for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Master of Education preferred with a specialization in Special Education, or equivalent qualifications and experience;
- Previous experience in special education in a First Nations context preferred;
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the issues and history of First Nations education at the local, regional and national levels;
- Fluency and literacy skills in a Manitoba First Nations Language is an asset;
- Must have a strong understanding of First Nations Communities governance structures and protocols;
- Demonstrated organizational and oral and written communication skills;
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office software applications;
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals in a respectful manner;
- Possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License and be willing to travel extensively when required;
- Provide satisfactory clearance of criminal record and provincial child abuse registry checks;
- Must have a strong understanding of First Nations Communities governance structures and protocols;
- Adhere to MFNERC policies and administrative procedures with specific attention to attendance and professional ethics;
- Awareness of Manitoba First Nations education development and reforms, bodies of knowledge and socio-economic conditions of First Nations Communities; and
- Respect the philosophy that the answers are within First Nations, each First Nations is distinct, as well as, recognize the importance of First Nations languages and cultures, applied research and lifelong learning in education transformation.
