Position Overview:
We are seeking a Project Engineer to join the HVDC Reliability Program Engineering Department Under the limited direction of the Section Head, responsible for the project engineering and administrative activities including planning, design, construction and commissioning activities on assigned key strategic and complex projects specific to the HVDC Reliability Program, with a focus on the Bipole 1 Valve and Controls Replacement Project.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for coordination between the HVDC Reliability Program's Engineering, Management, and Construction teams, and multi-disciplinary internal and external technical groups, including planning, design, maintenance & operations, engineering consultants and/or contractors.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external subject matter experts for the planning, procurement, design, construction, and commissioning of HVDC Reliability Program assets.
- Lead, coordinate and/or partipate in the hiring and management of Engineering consultants and/or contractors that ensures delivered products or services meet HVDC system needs.
- Quality review of highly complex technical criteria that form multi-million dollar contracts with consultants, suppliers, and vendors for key HVDC equipment.
- Lead, and provide input to, the development of the HVDC Reliability Program and project approval documents including scope, schedule, risk and cost estimates.
- Responsible for ensuring product and services meets technical requirements and are suitable/compatible with critical and highly complex HVDC system.
- Responsible to provide engineering and technical leadership and services to the HVDC Reliability Program that ensures safe, reliable and cost effective designs/studies are produced including assisting stakeholders with the assessment of complex deviations to technical scopes of work, project estimates or schedules.
- Monitor, control and communicate critical issues and deadlines, and manage accountability with Program participants and stakeholders such as System Operations, Engineering and Integrated Resource Planning .
- Provide leadership, direction and mentorship to HVDC Reliability Program stakeholders in the management of a complex and strategic project's estimate & schedule, execution strategies, human resource requirements, technical scope of work, risk assessments and contract management.
- Supervise and mentor project staff including staff officers, project specialists and Engineers.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Engineering from a University of recognized standing, with a minimum of seven years related experience including three years' experience in project management and administration.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Sound knowledge of fundamentals of electrical, civil and mechanical disciplines. Experience in the design of Manitoba Hydro's transmission and HVDC system would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of and application of Project Management theory including scoping, estimating, scheduling, procurement, cost control, risk management and change control in an engineering or construction environment.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative, and ability to maintain working relationships and interact effectively with others at all levels, both inside and outside the corporation.
- Mature judgment and proven ability to carry out assigned duties with a minimum of direction and supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate personnel.
- Demonstrated ability in providing mature leadership and delegating authority related to planning, organizing and motivating the activities of a group of engineers and technical support staff.
- Thorough knowledge of Corporate policies, procedures and regulations, including Corporate safety & environmental policies and the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and associated regulations.
- Strong computer skills including experience with scheduling software and the Microsoft Office suite of software. Experience in the use of SAP and P6 to oversee capital budgets and schedules would be considered an asset.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personal Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $52.88-$72.45 Hourly, $101,332.40-$138,828.30 Annually.
