Introduction
Winnipeg Child and Family Services is currently seeking candidates for the Family Support Worker 2 position, offering a 48-hour bi-weekly guarantee, to provide services within Winnipeg. Duties:
Under the direction of the assigned Coordinator, the Family Support Worker 2 provides a range of services that contribute to improving family functioning, parental capacity and child safety and well being. The Family Support Worker 2 participates in the development and implementation of a range of goal-oriented interventions to children and their families or to children in Care. Primary duties include; teaching parenting skills, age-appropriate life skills, budgeting, nutrition and household management, advocating for and assisting clients with access to community resources, supervising family visits for children in care, and escorting children and/or their parents to scheduled appointments. Qualifications:
Essential:
Grade twelve plus 1 year related course work plus one year relevant experience in a related position OR equivalent combination of education and 3 years relevant experience in a related position.
Experience working with children and families in a supportive manner.
Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare written documents in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and establish working relationships with various stakeholders, such as; children, youth, parents, social workers, supervisors and collaterals.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Ability to work with families, children and youth facing multiple barriers such as; financial, addiction, abuse, etc., or from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Knowledge of child development and behaviour including the effects of abuse and neglect.
Desired:
Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or Adobe
Knowledge of community resources and programming.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes for travel within the Province of Manitoba
Must provide a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check
Must be able to work flexible hours including, days, evenings and weekends
Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position which may include reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 kilograms or 55 pounds
